The story behind What’s the Craic?

What’s the Craic? came to life while Derek was working on a very different project – the  a deep spiritual deck full of numerology and guidance. After pouring so much energy into something serious and intense, Derek felt called to create the other side of the coin – something lighter, cheekier and full of the real Scottish banter he grew up with. The inspiration comes from his days working offshore, heading into the “bear pit” at tea breaks, the banter between working men and women from all over Scotland, Doric and Scots phrases flying about the room, and old family sayings and jokes passed down through the years. When Derek started designing each card, those voices and memories came flooding back. He realised these sayings are still totally relevant to modern life and can be used to encourage, not drag people down.

Even the more colourful and “sweary” cards have a positive twist on the back. The goal is simple: have a laugh, tell the truth, and lift folk up.
